Competition Format
Rounds and Scoring
HoMMaC 2026 consists of an Individual Round, a Team Round, a Countdown Round, and tie breakers if needed.
Breakdown of the Competition
Individual Round
Students solve a written problem set independently. This round is used in both team and individual scoring.
Team Round
Students work together with their school team on a collaborative written round. This round contributes to the final team score.
Countdown Round
A faster-paced round that contributes to the overall team score.
Tie Breakers
Tie breakers are used when needed. Tiebreaker points affect final individual placement when applicable, but do not count toward the final team score.
Scoring Rules

| Tie Breaker | All questions | 1 point |
All main rounds are out of 100 points.
Final Team Score: ((Average Individual Score + Team Score) / 2) + Countdown Score
Final Individual Score: Individual Score + Tiebreaker Score (if applicable)
Tiebreaker points are not included in the final team score.
Awards
Awards are given to top-scoring individuals and top-scoring teams.
Team awards are based on performance across the Individual, Team, and Countdown rounds.
Individual awards are based on the Individual Round and tiebreak procedure when applicable.
